Assistant Professor, Nursing
JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Professor will hold a faculty appointment and have administrative, academic and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Nursing Department and the Community College of Rhode Island. This individual will demonstrate competence in teaching and development of curriculum as well as clinical competence in the area of Medical/Surgical Nursing, Pediatrics, or Mental Health.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilitate learning in the college classroom and laboratory
Instruct students in accordance with the established curriculum
Maintain the ability to fulfill all instructor responsibilities on assigned clinical units at varied sites
Counsel students relative to their academic progress
Contribute to the development and revision of curriculum
Participate in faculty meetings to ensure coordination of didactic instruction and clinical experience.
Engage in high-quality instruction in a diverse, inclusive and student-centered environment, and the ability to work with students with various learning styles, cultures, identities, and life experiences.
Participate in college activities, including committee work.
Use technology to enhance instruction and communicate effectively with the campus community.
Be willing to travel and teach at multi-campus locations as required by department needs.
Demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree in Nursing
Active license (or eligible for licensure) as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
The equivalent of five years’ full-time experience in the nursing field with emphasis on Medical/Surgical Nursing, Pediatrics, or Mental Health.
Current acute care experience
Current CPR for healthcare providers AHA certification.
Current experience with computer modalities.
Experience in classroom and/or clinical instruction, preferably in a nursing program.
Strong communication, organization, interpersonal and counseling skills.
Experience, by education or employment, with curriculum design and evaluation, as well as student assessment.
Current skill and knowledge in the use of information technology and demonstrated experience with integration of computer technology into instruction.
Ability to thrive in a dynamic teaching/learning environment requiring flexibility, adaptability and teamwork.
Must maintain the ability to fulfill all instructor responsibilities on assigned clinical units at varied sites.
Willingness to travel and teach among multiple campuses as required by department needs.
