Assistant Professor, Pastry
JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Professor of Pastry will hold a faculty appointment and have academic and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Community College of Rhode Island. The newly developed Culinary Craftsmanship program is a two-year associate degree program with a one-year stackable certificate in Culinary Essentials. The Assistant Professor will be responsible for assisting with the overall operation and educational quality of the program.

Facilitate engagement and academic success by incorporating student advising, counseling, and remediation as needed
Ensure orientation to the program’s requirements of the personnel who supervise or instruct students at clinical sites
Provide administration, organization, and supervision of student experience
Instructional Skills:
Facilitate learning in the classroom
Contribute to a dynamic teaching/learning environment requiring adaptability, creativity, and teamwork
Use innovative instructional strategies that support student success and recognize diverse learning styles
Use technology to enhance instruction and communicate effectively with the campus community
Apply strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues
Participate in interprofessional educational activities
Convey knowledge and skills effectively to students
Continue professional development as an educator
Teach appropriate courses within the program maintaining food safety and quality standards
Departmental Support:
Assist in developing scheduling for the program including staffing of adjuncts as needed
Participate in departmental and college-wide activities
Demonstrate commitment to collaboration and collegiality
Participate in the hiring process of additional faculty for the department
Assure adherence to food safety and sanitation standards
Manage and perform ordering for all necessary supplies for classrooms within department
Assist in managing budgeting and other fiscal responsibilities
Develop and implement curriculum to maintain industry and academic standards and expectations
Other duties as required
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in related field
Minimum of 3 years industry and/or Pastry Arts teaching experience
Food Safety Manager Certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in related field
Related industry certification
Supervisory experience
Teaching experience in culinary or pastry
