Job Summary

The Assistant Professor will hold a faculty appointment and have administrative, academic and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Community College of Rhode Island.

Duties and Responsibilities

To include, but not limited to:
The Assistant Professor will hold a faculty appointment and have administrative, academic and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Community College of Rhode Island.

The individual will demonstrate competence in the fire science field and EMT Emergency Medical Technician.

Primary responsibilities are to (1) facilitate learning in the college classroom and laboratory, (2) instruct students in accordance with the established curriculum, (3) counsel students relative to their academic progress, (4) contribute to the development and revision of curriculum, (5) call and participate in faculty meetings to ensure coordination of didactic instruction and field experience, (6) participate in the fire science advisory committee, (7) promote program in collaboration with enrollment services, (8) participate annually in FESHE/EMI.

The Program Director also performs the following:
Manage the Fire Science Program, including EMT and work collaboratively with the coordinator of the Community Training Center for CPR courses. Work with the EMT Faculty to ensure currency, analysis of outcomes and interventions.

Monitor state, local and national trends regarding the broad field of fire science.

Participate in local, regional activities promoting program.

Ensure alignment of program with national curriculum model and FESHE.

Maintain, continuing accreditation.

Supervise faculty and students; ensure faculty performance is evaluated by students.

Participate in Fire Science, EMT and CPR curriculum development, revision and evaluation in compliance with FESHE and RIDOH.

Orient adjunct faculty.

Prepare internal documents required for program review of outcomes and learning evidence.

Prepare program for alignment with FESHE national standards.

Participate in interprofessional Simulation.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Adult Learning or related field required.

Knowledge and experience in field of Fire Science.

Approved state instructor for EMT required, paramedic preferred.

Must have a current Rhode Island license as an EMT – Instructor/Coordinator.

Current skill and knowledge in the use of information technology.

Flexible, adaptable, and able to work in teams.
