Duties and Responsibilities

• The Program Director holds a faculty appointment and has administrative, academic, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program and the College.

• This individual demonstrates competence in clinical skills; teaching in the classroom, lab, and clinic; administration; and curriculum development.

• In addition, this person’s primary responsibilities on behalf of the Program are to:
o develop, implement, evaluate, and refine the academic and clinical education components of the curriculum,
o recruit, delegate course responsibilities, evaluate and participate in the professional development of faculty,
o evaluate graduate performance and achievement of educational outcomes established for the Program,
o identify resources to enhance the efficiency and quality of the educational experience for faculty and students,
o identify resources within the College to facilitate student performance,
o ensure that policies and procedures are in place to protect the rights and safety to enhance teaching and learning for faculty and students,
o ensure compliance with accreditation policies and procedures established by the American Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE), and
o perform other administrative and teaching duties as needed.

• Demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college.
• Engage in high-quality instruction in a diverse, inclusive and student-centered environment, and the ability to work with students with various learning styles, cultures, identities, and life-experiences.

• Participate in college activities, including committee work.

• Use technology to enhance instruction and communicate effectively with the campus community.

• Be willing to travel and teach at multi-campus locations as required by department needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Education Program; possession of a Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy or a related field.

Initially certified nationally or licensed (or eligible for licensure) as an Occupational Therapist in Rhode Island.

Minimum of 5 years of clinical practice as an Occupational Therapist including experience with the occupational therapist/occupational therapy assistant relationship.

Minimum of 2 years experience in fieldwork education.

Minimum of 2 years experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities, preferably in an occupational therapy or occupational therapy assistant education program.

Minimum of 2 years of administrative responsibility in an educational or clinical environment.

Demonstrated leadership ability in the community or professional organizations.

Command of current “best practice” in occupational therapy and related fields.

Current skill and knowledge in the use of information technology.

Strong communication, organization, teaching, interpersonal, and counseling skills.
