The Chief Accountant will ensure financial integrity and responsible accounting, auditing and other fiscal procedures are performed for the Office of Institutional Advancement and CCRI Foundation, including the Alumni Association. Serve in a principal role in preparation of interim and annual financial statements; responsible for the fiscal administration of endowments, gifts, private grants and scholarships; accounts payable; payroll management; budgetary accounting and preparation. Supervise or carry out other various accounting functions as required. Stay abreast of and adhere to College, federal and state compliance guidelines, IRS regulations and non-profit financial guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage financial operations and responsibilities related to the Office of Institutional Advancement, CCRI Foundation and Alumni Association; such as:
o Perform, coordinate and ensure accuracy of all data and financial entries in accounting and business related systems
o Conduct daily and monthly reconciliations, and prepare schedules, P&L and portfolio summary reports
o Administer financial functions such as accounts payable and receivable, budgetary accounting, budget preparation, payroll management and related fiscal procedures
o Review and approve deposits of revenue and donations to appropriate accounts
o Oversee short and long term investments; regularly track and record investment activities
o Monitor expenditures and revenue accounts in adherence to annual budget plans
o Prepare, coordinate and assist with budget planning, analysis, forecasting/projections and reporting
o Complete 990, 1099’s and other required financial reports and filings in coordination with Foundation’s auditor’s where applicable
o Serve as lead on identifying, implementing, adhering to and maintaining financial policies and procedures
o Serve as liaison to bank, investment company and other financial service vendors

• Serve in a principal role in preparation of interim and annual comprehensive financial statements for CCRI Foundation and Alumni Association in collaboration with the Foundation’s auditors and College’s Controller.

• Develop and implement improvements to current systems of internal controls.

• Staff Foundation Finance/Investment Committee and other board and department meetings as needed

• Oversee the development, documentation, implementation, and improvement of financial policies and procedures

• Primary fiscal administrator of private and third-party grants; account for private and third-party grant projects, including set-up, maintenance, billing, close-out and reporting

• Serve as primary liaison to Controller’s Office and Business Affairs; attend department and associated committee meetings as needed to represent Office of Institutional Advancement and CCRI Foundation

• Participate in departmental and cross-functional teams and special projects

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required.
• Minimum of three years of experience in accounting or budgeting in a responsible position required.
• Thorough knowledge of not-for-profit accounting principles, including experience complying with current GAAP and FASB pronouncements required.
• Ability to analyze and prepare financial statements and manage auditing process.
• Advanced experience in working with accounting, financial and donor database systems.
• Ability to develop and implement improvements to accounting systems and possess ability to multi-task.
• Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills.
• A high degree of attention to detail and accuracy of work.
• Experience in and ability to present financial information in laymen’s terms
• Ability to exercise good judgement. Must be self-directed and able to work independently under pressure of deadlines.
• Proficient with Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

CPA preferred.
• related experience in higher education or non-profit institutions.
• familiarity with fundraising accounting and reporting guidelines
• proficient with Word, Access, PowerPoint preferred.
