Assistant Professor, Library (Student Belonging & Online Learning Outreach Librarian)
Job Summary:
The Community College of Rhode Island seeks an energetic and student-centered librarian to serve as our new Student Belonging & Online Learning Outreach Librarian at the Flanagan Campus. The CCRI Library serves students, faculty, and staff at four campus locations (Lincoln, Newport, Providence, and Warwick). This is a full-time, 12-month calendar-year, faculty position that will be hired in the rank of Assistant Professor.
This position plays an important role in supporting student engagement, strengthening equitable access to library resources and services, and fostering a welcoming and inclusive library environment. This position will oversee core access services for the Flanagan Campus Library (Lincoln, RI). The successful candidate will help develop and implement the CCRI Library’s outreach and online learning initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Online Learning Outreach
Lead the planning and implementation of college-wide library outreach efforts with an emphasis on outreach to online students, cultivating a sense of belonging for these learners.
Collaborate on the creation of digital learning objects that support information literacy outcomes in the library instruction program.
Collaborate with online learning leadership and college communications/marketing departments to strengthen awareness of Library initiatives and services.
Promote online library services to faculty and departments.
Assist in developing strategic outreach and communication plans and materials that increase visibility and engagement with the Library.
Student Belonging & Access Services
Oversee day-to-day operations of the Access Services Department, including circulation, reserves, stack maintenance, inventory, and intra-network lending.
Hire, train, supervise, and mentor paraprofessional staff and student employees.
Manage scheduling, timekeeping, budgeting, and operational workflows.
Encourage and foster positive engagement and experiences by staying current with student access needs.
Work with colleagues to create and maintain a welcoming environment for all CCRI students, faculty, staff, and community visitors.
Represent the Library at orientations and other campus events.
Reference, Instruction & Other Shared Responsibilities
All faculty librarians participate in shared library responsibilities, including:
Provide research assistance and reference services in person and through virtual platforms.
Teach information literacy and library instruction sessions using student-centered and inclusive practices.
Serve as liaison to assigned academic department(s), including support for program accreditations.
Participate in departmental, college-wide, and consortium committees and initiatives.
Contribute to library planning, assessment, policy development, and continuous improvement efforts.
Collaborate with librarians and staff across all CCRI campuses.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
Professional library experience.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience with an Integrated Library System (ILS).
Experience supervising staff and/or student employees.
Expert knowledge of electronic information resources, online databases, and web-based research tools.
Experience in troubleshooting hardware/software issues and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, service-oriented environment.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, accessibility, and supporting diverse learners and communities.
Knowledge of WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards and their application in support of ADA Title II compliance.
Experience creating print or digital communications, marketing materials, or outreach campaigns.
Preferred Qualifications:
Academic library experience.
Experience with OCLC WMS.
Experience supporting outreach, engagement, or student success initiatives in an academic environment.
Reference and library instruction experience in an academic library setting.
Experience creating online instructional content using Springshare products, video editing, and other tools.
Experience supporting library services in online or virtual learning environments.
