Job Summary
CCRI Advantage is an innovative program that helps associate degree-seeking CCRI students get a strong start in college. The goal of the program is to help students prepare for college-level coursework and to meet CCRI’s proficiency milestones prior to starting credit-bearing courses in their first semester of college. The program seeks to successfully transition math and reading/writing students from their developmental status to successful completion of credit-bearing/transferable course credits. Instructor target developmental needs of the students with high-quality, interdisciplinary reading and writing, or math instruction. The instructor coordinates a three-person classroom team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Engage in high-quality reading and writing, instruction in a diverse, inclusive, student-centered environment with the object of creating a dynamic classroom community.
Deliver set-curriculum in English Reading and Writing designed by CCRI English faculty.
Work alongside embedded tutors to deliver effective lesson plans and provide supplemental material to achieve course objectives and address student needs
Participate in on-going assessment of student achievement.
Work in-person with students with various learning styles, cultures, and life experiences
Keep detailed and organized records of students’ attendance, assessments, and progress, including a final evaluation
Collaborate with the director, Advantage facilitators, and other instructors in the program and attend meetings as needed
Suggest on-going improvements to structured curriculum
Engage with students in a student-centered learning environment
Facilitate an advisory support portion on the class to additionally support student learning.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree (Master’s preferred) in English, or related field
Relevant teaching experience in an education setting; experience teaching developmental and/or adult education classes
Demonstrate a high level of preparation and attention to detail
Deep understanding of oral and written communication challenges for adult students
Strong computer skills and competency in technology and course management systems
Knowledge of successful strategies for classroom management, especially in terms of linguistically and culturally diverse students
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Creativity and flexibility in the classroom
